Supporting Positive Wellbeing in the Workplace

Mental Health Awareness Week is a powerful reminder of the importance of emotional wellbeing – not just in our personal lives, but also in the workplace. With recent statistics from Mind showing that 1 in 4 adults in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year, it’s more important than ever for businesses to recognise the impact of mental health at work.

The scale of the issue is significant. Online statistics suggest that mental health-related absenteeism is costing UK industry a staggering £300 billion a year, with the public sector alone losing 18.5 million working days annually. These numbers highlight how deeply mental health challenges are affecting both individuals and organisations.

The New Workplace Landscape

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the way we work has changed dramatically. Remote and hybrid working models have become the norm for many – bringing flexibility, but also a new set of challenges. Increased isolation, blurred work-life boundaries, and reduced face-to-face interaction can all contribute to heightened stress and anxiety.

That’s why fostering a positive mental health culture in the workplace isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s a vital part of supporting employee wellbeing and maintaining a productive, resilient team.

A Proactive Step Forward: First Aid for Mental Health Training

One practical and effective step businesses can take is to provide First Aid for Mental Health training

At Help First Aid Training, we offer courses designed to equip your team with the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Recognise signs of poor mental health in colleagues
  • Offer initial support in a non-judgmental way
  • Signpost individuals to appropriate professional help both inside and outside of the workplace

Our training doesn’t aim to turn people into therapists – instead, it empowers them to be compassionate first responders for mental wellbeing.

Training Across the North-East

We deliver First Aid training across the North-East of England – from Durham to Darlington, Newcastle to Newton Aycliffe, and everywhere in between. Whether you’re a small team or a large organisation, we can tailor sessions to suit your needs, either at your workplace or at our training facility in Shildon, County Durham.

If you would like to arrange some training, or some further advice, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!

Remember we work with CITB, so if you are an employer in the construction industry, you could receive a grant for up to 70% of your training costs.
